Lighting Up These Dark-Feeling Days

You have to love how quickly we Americans move to stay busy and creative when the news turns dark. Check this out. It's the first day of spring today but in some areas, you'd swear it was December!

Across the country, people who are practicing social distancing at home are rummaging through their basements and attics and pulling out the Christmas lights. What better way to illuminate a dreary neighborhood than by tapping into holidays past? Plus, I can speak for most parents when I say ANYTHING that keeps kids busy and focused is a blessing.

"What if we all put our Christmas lights back up?" tweeted Lane Grindle, a play-by-play broadcaster for the Milwaukee Brewers. "Then we could get in the car and drive around and look at them! That seems like a fair social distancing activity."

Grindle's idea is catching on!

People in North Dakota, Michigan, California, Rhode Island, Louisianna and Tennessee are all in. "Have yourself a Merry Little Quarantine," says one tweeted caption. "Pretending this year is almost over!" tweets another person. "Balcony lights are on, tree my go up next week!"

Of course, such a cool idea has other folks making admissions.

"To be honest?" one man tweets. "I never took mine down!"
