KDKA Radio's Shelby Cassesse joined Robert Mangino in-studio to talk about some suspected cases of AFM here in Pittsburgh. She spoke with Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Karen Hacker and Medical Epidemiologist Dr. Kristen Mertz. Dr. Hacker said AFM affects a person’s nervous system, specifically the spinal cord with the symptoms being comparable to polio. If there are signs of AFM the best thing to do are see a healthcare provider right away and get testing done immediately.
